BITAN Conducts Largest Health Camp in Nadia District
Over 1,400 community members received free health screenings, medicines, and referrals at BITAN's one-day mega health camp in Krishnanagar, in partnership with GSK and local hospitals.
More than 1,400 community members from Krishnanagar and surrounding villages in Nadia district attended BITAN's largest single-day health camp to date on 18 February 2026. Organised in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and three local hospitals, the camp offered free consultations, diagnostics, medicines, and specialist referrals across twelve service stations set up at the Krishnanagar Community Hall.
Services included antenatal check-ups and iron-folic acid supplementation for pregnant women, nutritional assessments for children under 5, blood pressure and diabetes screening, eye and dental check-ups, and cervical cancer awareness with visual inspection tests. Over 200 women received detailed reproductive health counselling, and 78 children were identified for follow-up nutrition support under BITAN's supplementary feeding programme.
"We see camps like this as doorways — they build trust and often bring in families who would otherwise never access formal health services," said the camp's medical coordinator, a senior physician from the partnering hospital. "The real impact is the referral pathway. Today we gave 340 referrals. Each of those is someone who now has a next step."
GSK contributed medicines, diagnostics kits, and three specialist physicians for the event. BITAN mobilised 45 community health volunteers who conducted pre-camp awareness drives in 22 villages in the preceding two weeks, ensuring that the most marginalised households — especially women from Scheduled Caste and minority communities — were aware of and able to attend.
Following the success of the camp, BITAN and GSK have committed to two further camps in Murshidabad and Malda districts before the end of the 2025–26 financial year, with a combined target of reaching 3,000 additional beneficiaries.
